Dark Demos 1994-2013

New collection of unreleased demos from Steven Gullett out now!

1. Life Won’t Change (2013) – Attempting to write a “pop” song but I ended up going all downer on the lyrics.
2. In The Corner (1994) – An autobiographical account of what my early twenties looked like after my first band fell apart.
3. Checking Out (2005) – There are times you want to run away from it all.
4. Dream Show (2013) – Talk is cheap, it’s hard to follow through on what we want to do.
5. Walking On My Grave (2004) – I totaled my van in the pouring rain on a Halloween night and took out a tree at 10 Wilmington Place. I felt very lucky to be ok but extremely spooked as well, I was off Jack Daniels for a while after that misadventure.
6. How’d We Get Here (2005) – Just when you think you aren’t going to make it through, sometimes you do. For my wife.
7. Grand Design (1998) – I had an old upright piano for a few years, it had to be tuned down a half step so the soundboard wouldn’t crack. This is a song written by 2 of best friends from college.
8. Disappearing Glow (2013) – It’s hard to keep finding novelty in life; you may have to look a little harder as the years go on.
9. Look Out Below (2005) – If all these people I hang out with are going to Hell then look out below.
10. Hip Gloss (1999) – Written in the months after my Mom passed away, I had forgotten about this song until I found it on a 15 year old CD.
11. Fall Away (2011) – A piano ballad about being young and insecure.
12. Worse Than It Seems (2005) – Recorded at 3 in the morning on my reel to reel machine. As you can hear the tape runs out and off the reel right at the end, thought it was a nice effect.

Available now on Amazon, CD Baby and Bandcamp.

The American Static Ready for Gilly’s

The American Static Ready for Gilly’s

By Kris Neises | October 4, 2006

Jason Himes started the Dayton indie-rock band, The American Static, two and a half years ago. Back then he had no intentions of extending the life of the band past just a studio project, but as the recordings were passed around and the name grew, Himes had no choice but to make The American Static a fully functional band.

Since then, however, the band’s lineup has been anything, but stable. Two years ago, Himes was joined by Dayton infamous singer/songwriter, Steven Gullet, and the two have been the only stability in the band until recently. The current lineup has been together for more than a year now and it is safe to say the lineup is final and complete.

That lineup, including Tod Wiedner, Johanna Taylor, Patrice Hall, Dan Stahl, Tim Pritchard, Brian Greaney, Himes, and Gullet, have just completed their second LP, entitled Love, Space, and Time. But, unfortunately for their fans, the production on the album is on hold due to finances.

The American Static will be playing the Dayton Music Fest this Saturday, October 7th. You can catch them at Gilly’s and while you’re there feel free to slip the band a few dollars so we all can enjoy the new American Static cd a little sooner.

Interview with Steven Gullet:

KN – This is the second year American Static has played the music fest, are you excited to participate again?

SG – Yea, last year was so cool. I had never seen so many people downtown for a local music show before.

KN – Which other bands, beside yourselves, are you looking forward to seeing at the fest?

SG – I want to check out a number of bands that I haven’t seen play yet. I would love to catch My Latex Brain.

KN – Tell me about the new cd and when we can expect it?

SG – All the recording is finished were just waiting to get it pressed. It’s like on layaway. We owe the pressing company some money and then we will release it. Expect a huge release show before the end of the year.

KN – Where did you record it?

SG – We spread the recording out among four studios, Refraze, The Lab, Team Evil, and Cybertechnics. It sounds really good and we are all really happy with it.
